Presentation
Skiing straight from the door is a rare treat in Val Thorens, and Chalet Véga sits right on the piste just below Place du Caron. Filling the top two floors of a stone-and-timber building, the catered penthouse sleeps 12 in six bedrooms, all twins. Downstairs, guests share a sauna with Chalet Pégase, run separately in the same building. A big group of friends or several families will have room for everyone.
The whole top floor is given over to one open-plan room under a vaulted ceiling. Deep green sofas gather round the fireplace and TV, and a long wooden table seats everyone for dinner, with the kitchen along one wall. Outside, a terrace looks across to the Massif de Péclet, Cime Caron and Pointe de la Masse.
Down a level, each of the bedrooms has its own shower room. Four of the six open onto balconies, each used by two rooms. The ground-floor ski and boot room is shared with the neighbouring chalet too.
Days begin with a cooked breakfast or a continental spread, and tea and coffee are waiting when you come in from the slopes. Dinner is three courses with wine. On the hosts' Wednesday off, the restaurants around Place du Caron are just above the chalet.
Freshly made beds greet you on arrival. Towels and toiletries are provided, plus bathrobes and slippers for the sauna. A mid-stay clean and Wi-Fi are both included. Out on the snow, you can clip in and ski down to the magic carpets and lifts, or all the way to Les Menuires.
Terrace drinks as the last skiers carve past, then a spell in the sauna, make Chalet Véga a joy in Val Thorens. Twelve friends or an extended family will find it a superb base for exploring the vast Three Valleys ski area.
