Chalet Blackcomb in Val d'Isère warms you up two ways, with a hot tub out on a balcony and a cosy open fire upstairs. This catered home sleeps eight in four bedrooms, all twins, and exposed beams give its living room traditional alpine character. It suits a big group of friends or an extended family.
The living space fills the whole upper floor, one open-plan room under the eaves. Sofas, a fireplace, the dining table, the kitchen and a small nook all sit together up here. A second balcony leads off the room for taking in the view.
Down a level, every bedroom has an en-suite, a TV and a safe, plus a wardrobe lit from inside. Two of them open onto the hot-tub balcony, and one of that pair has a bath. The other three have shower rooms, giving four bathrooms in all, which makes getting ready easier for eight. One of those bedrooms has its WC just outside, in the corridor.
Dinner is the highlight, with canapés and an apéritif before three courses and complimentary wine, prepared by your hosts six days a week. Mornings start with a cooked or continental breakfast, and tea and cake are waiting after skiing. Wednesday is the hosts' day off, a chance to try the bars and restaurants in the centre of Val d'Isère.
The chalet shares a ski locker room and an entrance lounge with the rest of the building. Towels, toiletries, bathrobes and slippers are all provided, beds are made before you arrive, and there's Wi-Fi at no charge. There is a mid-stay clean as well.
