Presentation
South-facing windows at Chalet Iceberg look across the lake to the ski area and the Grande Motte glacier. Built in typical Haute Tarentaise style with wood panelling and local stone, this rustic catered home in Tignes le Lac sleeps nine in five bedrooms. An extended family or a group of friends can take it over for the week.
The chalet has two separate reception rooms, each with a log fire of its own. Leather sofas gather round a hooded hearth in the lounge, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame the mountains. Next door, a long wooden table stands on flagstones beside a stone fireplace. Above, a carved gallery looks down from beneath a high timber ceiling. One balcony runs along the front of both rooms.
Up the spiral stair, both doubles have views over the lake to the glacier. Under the eaves, two compact twins have limited headroom, and their only windows look inward onto the landing. All four upstairs rooms have an en-suite bathroom with a small bath and handheld shower. A single with its own shower room sits on the living floor.
The day opens with a cooked or continental breakfast, and afternoon tea brings freshly baked cakes. Canapés and an apéritif come first in the evening, before a three-course dinner served with complimentary wine. The hosts have Wednesday to themselves.
Towels, toiletries and made-up beds await your arrival. Wi-Fi and a mid-stay clean are part of the package. It is only 200 metres to the nearest lift and piste, and the free resort bus stops a minute's walk down the hill.
In Tignes le Lac, Chalet Iceberg wins guests over with its glacier views, two log fires and hosted dinners. A big family or a party of nine friends will have a memorable week here, riding the Chardonnet button lift up towards Palafour and the 300 km Tignes-Val d'Isère Ski Area.
