Presentation
Local stonework and warm wood run right through Chalet Alaska, a traditional catered home in Tignes le Lac with its own hot tub and sauna. Nine bedrooms, all en-suite, sleep 20, so a large group of friends or several families can travel together. From the door it is only 150 metres to where you click into your skis, and you can ski back to the same spot.
In the living room, an arched fireplace and a wall of stone set the scene, with a wrought-iron chandelier hanging above. Extra seating fills the galleried mezzanine and the space beneath it. Further along, the long dining room has a timber ceiling and tables for everyone. Outside, a large south-facing terrace catches the sun.
The bedrooms are lined in wood and spread over four floors. Most are twins, alongside a small double and two triples with single beds, one of them tucked under the eaves. Two bedrooms open onto balconies, and a bath features in three of the en-suites.
A cooked or continental breakfast sets you up for the slopes, and freshly baked cakes come with afternoon tea. In the evenings, the dining tables fill for three courses with complimentary wine, once canapés and an apéritif have been served. Tignes le Lac's restaurants are a short walk from the chalet, handy on Wednesday when the hosts have their day off.
Tired legs can recover in the sauna or the hot tub out on the terrace, and bathrobes and slippers are provided. Skis and boots go in the boot room, reached by an outside staircase. On arrival you'll find the beds made up, with towels and toiletries supplied. Wi-Fi is free, and the chalet is cleaned midway through your stay.
