Presentation
Set high above the village, The Old Macaroni looks out over Morzine's church, the valley and the Pleney and Nyon pistes. This converted farmhouse is catered in winter, with a hot tub, a glass-fronted barrel sauna, a spa treatment room and its own cinema room. There is space for 12 in six bedrooms, or as many as 18, so an extended family or a big group of friends can all come along. The nearest bars are a few minutes' walk away, and in winter the chalet's driver takes care of the rest. Send a WhatsApp at any hour and a private minibus aims to arrive within 20 minutes, or book journeys ahead. It ferries skiers and kit to the Pleney or Super Morzine lifts, over to Les Gets or out to Ardent and Prodains for Avoriaz. After a late dinner, it brings everyone home.
Glazed bi-fold doors open one whole side of the upstairs lounge onto a wraparound balcony. It is the perfect seat for Pleney's weekly fireworks and torchlit descent. A grand piano and a log-burning stove complete the room. On the entrance floor, the open-plan kitchen overlooks a large dining room, with a further seating area that can double as a separate table for children.
Each bedroom is themed on a novel. The Old Man and the Sea has a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a lit shower. The Little Prince, a double or twin, has a balcony, a roll-top bath on its own mezzanine and a shower room with a double shower. All Men Are Mortal has a king-size bed, a huge walk-in shower, a dressing room and a private balcony. Doctor Zhivago, also a double or twin, has a large en-suite, and a fifth double has a shower in the room with a WC next door. The sixth bedroom is a mezzanine with four double cabin beds behind privacy curtains, and a bathroom at the foot of its stairs.
On the lower level, the cinema room has tiered seating in pink and purple velvet, art deco lighting, surround sound and huge custom-made beanbags. Out on the terrace, the hot tub and barrel sauna share the view over the village, beside a dining deck, barbecue and sun loungers. The fifth bedroom can also become a spa treatment room, with treatments booked on request.
In winter, a private chef cooks for the group on five evenings, with canapés and four courses, while the hosts serve breakfast and afternoon tea every day. Champagne, wine, spirits, beers and soft drinks are all part of the stay. On the chef's two nights off, the chalet's concierge can book a table in town and the driver will take everyone there. Boots and gloves go on heated racks in the boot room overnight. There is parking and a garage, and the chalet is pet-friendly.
