Presentation
Sunshine pours through the windows of Chalet Xanadu all day long, from its spot just above the road between Morzine and Montriond. This catered chalet has a sauna, a hot tub and wide views to Pointe de Nyon and the Pleney slopes. With six bedrooms for 14, rising to 20 when the bunks are doubled up and the kids' den is used, a big family or a large group of friends will have room to spare. All winter the driver is a WhatsApp away, day or night, aiming to be at the door within 20 minutes. Trips can be booked ahead, too. Skiers and their kit go to any lift in Morzine or Les Gets, or out to Ardent and Prodains for Avoriaz. After dinner in town, the minibus is back to bring everyone home.
The open-plan lounge, dining area and kitchen have a boho-chic, Scandinavian feel, with simple furniture and a huge fireplace the hosts keep stocked with logs. Wraparound balconies and a big deck make the most of the views across the valley. Around the corner, a TV area with armchairs and beanbags gives the group a second place to settle.
The chalet spans six levels, with bedrooms on three of them. Each bedroom has its own en-suite, three with a bath and three with a shower. Five have super king beds, three of which split into twins, and the master opens straight onto the deck. Up on level five, one bedroom has a balcony facing Nyon and a freestanding egg-shaped bath. The sixth is a bunk room with four double beds and a bathroom with a low sink for children. At the very top, a secret den with games, books and floor-to-ceiling windows can sleep two more children on request.
Through the ski season, the chalet's chef and hosts look after the group. Breakfast and afternoon tea are served daily, and five evenings begin with canapés before a four-course dinner. The chef plans menus around children's meals and any dietary needs. Champagne, wine, spirits, beers and soft drinks are all included, as is daily housekeeping. On the two free nights, the restaurants of Morzine and Montriond make for a lively night out.
On level three, a large indoor sauna with a shower opens outside to the hot tub, a fine spot for a glass of bubbles with a view. At the main entrance, a big lobby takes jackets and helmets, and the boot room's heated warmers have boots ready for the morning. There is off-street parking for six cars, plus a garage for storage.
