Presentation
From the road, Chalet Mont des Anges looks like a bungalow, but it is built into the hillside over three floors on the sunny side of the valley between Morzine and Montriond. Its enormous south-west-facing deck has a heated infinity pool with a swim current, a hot tub and an outdoor kitchen, with a sauna just inside. All of it looks across forest and fields to Roc d'Enfer. Six bedrooms sleep 14, with room for a large family or a crowd of friends. In winter it is a hosted chalet with a private driver seven days a week. Message at any hour and the minibus aims to arrive within 20 minutes, or book trips ahead. It will take skiers and kit to the lifts of Morzine and Les Gets, or out to Ardent and Prodains for Avoriaz. After dinner, it brings everyone home.
Upstairs, the open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area are made for meals together. Here, 14 leather chairs surround a feather-edge table beneath chandeliers hung in ornamental cages. The lounge has a wood-burning stove and floor-to-ceiling doors that slide back onto a balcony and those mountain views.
Downstairs, a bar worthy of a city night out is run by the hosts in winter, with a big-screen TV and an office nook alongside. Its doors open onto the deck, where the pool and hot tub sit beside the barbecue. Nearby, the cinema room has a huge screen, soft blankets and a display wall of wine.
The master bedroom is on the entrance level, with mountain views and a bathroom with a glass shower. Four more bedrooms sit on the floor below, each able to become a twin and each with a balcony, private or shared. Three have en-suite showers, and the fourth has a family bathroom with a half bath a few steps away. The bunk room on the lowest level has four full-size single bunks.
On five days, the hosts lay out a continental breakfast, have afternoon tea waiting after skiing and take care of the housekeeping. Champagne, wine, spirits, beers and soft drinks are all included. Evenings are your own to cook, order meal deliveries at extra cost, or let the chalet's concierge book a table. Montriond's bars and restaurants are a four-minute walk away. A laundry room, heated boot warmers, Sonos speakers and parking for four cars complete the picture.
