Presentation
Chalet 21 Forty stands alone on the beginners' plateau at Arc 2000, ski-in/ski-out with an indoor pool looking out at the mountains. A sauna sits beside the pool and a hot tub stands out on the terrace. Across 300 m² there are seven bedrooms for 14 guests, catering included. It suits multiple families or a large group of friends as one party.
Originally a sheepfold in the middle of the piste, Chalet 21 Forty was named the world's best new ski chalet in 2018 and as one of the ten sexiest chalets of all time. Inside, an open fire, a piano and a bar give the main room its character. Once the lifts stop it goes quiet up here, and the views run a full 360 degrees with Mont Blanc dominating.
Seven bathrooms serve the bedrooms, five of them en-suite shower rooms and the two largest with a bath. Every bedroom can be made up as a double or a twin, so the sleeping suits the group. The master covers 60 m² and its neighbour 40 m², both with a shower alongside the bath and a separate WC.
The pool is the centrepiece, with the mountains through the glass, and the sauna beside it eases stiff legs. Outside, the hot tub is the place to sit as the light goes.
A qualified chef cooks through the week, with hosts looking after the chalet and canapés served before dinner on six nights. Breakfast is made every morning and the housekeeping is daily. Wake-up drinks are brought up, and massages and beauty treatments can be booked at extra cost. On arrival day the chalet's piste-ranger brings the luggage up to the door, once the pistes have closed.
Warmers in the ski room dry boots for the morning, and there is parking at the chalet. Bathrobes, slippers and towels are provided and the beds are made before arrival. The Taj-I Mah hotel is a five-minute walk across the snow for a cocktail, with the bowling alley alongside.
Arc 2000 is a short walk away, and the pool, sauna, hot tub and chef at Chalet 21 Forty belong to the guests alone. It is a wonderful base for an extended family or a big group of friends taking on the 425 km of Paradiski.
